Hello Mr. Collie:
I've been looking through both this and gardenweb forum and wondered if you could provide me with some current info regarding the T&C promo series.
1. Which H&M sofa models are part of the program?
2. Are the hides from China?
3. If so, are they to your quality standards (ie., do you recommend them)?
I guess I'll start with those questions and we'll go from there. Much thanks.
I have a list of the Town and Country items on a spreadsheet at my store, as soon as I get a chance I'll post the file. There are quite a few models in the group, but H&M does not notate which are and are not on the website as not every dealer has the Town and Country Program.
Hides in the T&C program that are sourced from China are Document and Cavalier. It's actually quite difficult to find out the source country for origin of the hides. Many hides may start a tanning process in one country and then be shipped to China for final finishing. In other instances, such as Kipling, that was originally an Italian hide but that company has opened a tannery in China, so you could get one batch of Kipling from Italy, the next batch from China.
Yes, I have zero issues with the Chinese Married Cover hides coming from H&M, and I cannot say the same for Bradington-Young. Its obvious to me that H&M is not using the same facility for their Chinese-made product as B-Y does.
The finest hides for H&M are coming out of Europe, but they are not so price-friendly. Most will be Class III or IV in price, but they are tremendously luxurious.
Thanks Duane. I look forward to seeing the spreadsheet. It may help me, and others, become more informed. I like H&M, although my local store is extremely expensive for any H&M product and I would have to order elsewhere. I have also looked at McKinley Leather Furniture. Are you familiar with their product? I like that they are a benchmade product and all from the USA. After reading your reply, however, I do wonder if their hides are obtained, tanned, sewn in China. I suppose you can still tout "American Made" even if your materials are from elsewhere.Quote:

I tried the file and windows does not seem to want to open it. says it must know the program that created it. By the way Duane my computer skills are not good either.
Click on the file and save to your computer somewhere. Then open Excel and open the file. You'll need Microsoft Excel to veiw the file. If you don't have it, OpenOffice is a free MS Office clone that allows you to view all of MS' files.

I see in your new Town and Country for 2009 post that the Highlands Sofa has been added to the program. I was unfamiliar with that sofa before but it interests me - I like that it's deeper than most (inside depth 24") and has that traditional den-like look.
Would you be able to give me an idea on price? Also, any thoughts on the Buckingham Merlot Burnished leather it comes in as compared for example to the Document leathers that the September sofa in the T&C program comes in?
Lastly, have you by chance done a sit test in the Highlands? I'm looking for very high "laying around watching tv" comfort.

The new Highlands sofa was rolled out in 2008, and its LONG and DEEP. You really want to make sure you have a wide doorway and hallway for egress with this one, its going to be big and heavy. Keep in mind that with deep internal depth sofas when shorter people sit upright in them their feet won't touch the floor, but for lounging in they're great.

Price in Town and Country in Buckingham Burnished Merlot is $ 3,590.00 This is a new leather for H&M and I don't have swatches of it yet, but it looks good in the photos.
Duane, can you confirm that the Patriot office chair and the Cabo sofa are no longer included in the Town and Country Collection?
Correct. What you see in the 2009 photos is the entire program. However, remember that we're still working on the old program until 2008, so if you want the Cabo and the Patriot, you still have a week to order them up.
Unfortunately I'm not ready to buy yet. How much would both pieces be outside of the Town and Country program in Class 2/3 leather?

A few other questions about the Highlands sofa.
On the H&M website, there's a 4425 Highlands sofa (w/ 25.5 inch inside depth) and a 5010 Highlands sofa (w/ 24 inch depth). The 4425 is shown in fabric (I think) and the 5010 in leather. Can the 4425 be purchased in leather? If so, what would the price be for Antelope leather?
Also, can you give me a price for the 5010 in Antelope? I haven't seen a Buckingham swatch yet (which is the Town and County leather for that piece) but really liked the Antelope when I felt that recently.
Lastly, you mentioned the Highlands is a big sofa that needs a wide doorway and hallway for egress. I'm fine on the hallway size and there is no obstacle once inside my front door (it's a wide, straight shot center hall), but the front door is just a standard size metal door. How big do you think it needs to be?

Normally you respond to questions right away - I must have finally exhausted you with my neverending quest to find a deep-seated sofa.
If you can find a way to answer the above re: the Highlands, I'll try to refrain from barraging you with more. But I can't make any promises....
I think I've narrowed it down to the Highlands or the Sundance with the Highlands leading b/c of the straight back versus the curved back of the Sundance.

Are you ready for this? That's the same sofa, just one number is used for the one in fabric (# 4225) and the other model number is used for the one in leather (#5010). The measurements were taken off two different Highland sofas and you will get that kind of variance due to the handmade nature of the H&M product. Different upholsterers, different outer covers, foam and cushion variances, etc. Confusing, I know. Once in a while I will have a customer who needs a sofa to be made as close to the spec as possible and we will notate that on the purchase order.Quote:

<laughing> You won't be the first to 'overthink' a sofa purchase and I doubt you'll be the last. Its more difficult to buy a high quality sofa as first of all it cost more, and secondly it will last longer. If you had to buy a car that you were going to keep for 15 to 20 years it would probably take you a lot longer to purchase as well ! Take your time and when you're ready and its affordable to do so, then pull the trigger. I don't anticipate any price increases in the near future from H&M , so you do have time.
