Default New Engand Tea Table by John Buchanan

One of the premier American forms, hugely expensive as a genuine American period antique ($150K and up, depending on history and form). This is an exquisite piece and there are many done like this from various makers. But there's a key design element in this table that most makers miss in reproducing the original and that's in the legs. A properly done tea table such as this has very graceful, thin legs with a well-defined knee and pad foot. Most the time you will see legs that are too thick and stocky. This one has the right form, and represents the fine art of furniture making. Always look at the curvature of the legs and the balance to the top mold. This is should always be graceful looking, not clunky. John hand-makes these one a time and the legs are carved and turned on his own lathe, not purchased from an outside source with a high-speed duplicator. You can only get this look doing them one at a time. Shown in Tiger Maple with a 2-board top, $ 1,899 as of the date of this post (subject to change) and no - they never go 'on sale'!

I took notice of that table while there, it was beautiful, and also that green tufted chair in the background, I sat in it, it was also very comfortable as well. I really did sit in almost every piece upstairs <lol>. I really, really loved that writing desk chair, I cannot keep but thinking about it, sigh. You should show off that chair as well, it's a beautiful piece of work, imho.

    Stunning!

Duane has john ever made a mirror? Is that something we could have done? Maybe sans glass and I can have that put in local?

The artwork was done by nature. It's tiger maple and one of the most beautiful woods in the world.
