Never push furniture on carpet
If you push wood furniture on carpet, or even on hardwood floors where the leg can 'catch' on an edge, you run the risk of tearing or splitting the legs off the piece. Just yesterday a customer brought in a fractured small table where her kids were pushing across the living room floor. The stress on the legs is incredible when you do that, and the legs will break out at the mortise and tenon joint or else fracture across a stress line in the wood. For most pieces, its ruined when that occurs. Always LIFT to move and take the weight off the legs. If you can lift it, then buy slider pads (mentioned in an earlier tip) and put under the legs - then you're good to push when those are used.
