I recently bought an antique rectangular Kittinger dining room table and two buffet tables. The table came with 6 side chairs and one captains chair. I am thinking about arranging the chairs so that I have two chairs on either side of the table and putting the captains chair on one end and leaving the other end of the table open with no chair. My dining room and kitchen is all one open room, and I would be leaving the end of the table nearest to the kitchen open with no chair. I want to put the other two side chairs on either side of a long buffet table in the dining room. I don't know whether or not this will look right however, so I would like some opinions and ideas.
I think that would look just fine, especially since that end is open to the kitchen. If you have a large group of guests, you can move a chair onto that end.
